Thomas Heatherwick in 1994 founded the Heatherwick Studio. This Design company is globally recognised for its work in architecture, urban infrastructure, sculpture, design and strategic thinking. This design firm is based in Kings Cross, London and is one of my greatest inspirations for becoming a Product Designer.

Heatherwick himself studied 3D design as he believes that design should not have to be split into art, product, interior, architecture etc. This is something I agree with as I do not think you should be limited by what you study but to design what can be designed. The studio does not follow a specific style or genre but focuses on solving a problem.

“It is more like solving a crime. The answer is there and your job is to find it. So we go off and do bits of research that essentially eliminate suspects from the enquiry. And then you follow up on leads and gradually narrow down the potential solutions. Ultimately what you’re left with is the answer.”

- Thomas Heatherwick
