Recently, in one of my lectures, I was asked what I wanted. Immediately I thought ‘A camera’. I have always wanted to do photography and was intrigued by the way one was able to capture emotion and motion within one still image. I was glad when I was told to explore this further, it gave me a chance to really see what photography was all about. Honestly, I did not know how wide the spectrum of photography really was and how much technique and science went behind taking good photo. Having said this, it is 2016 and yes there are techniques and cameras that one must use and have but technology – in particular the iPhone- has been developed so that a simple point and shoot camera is in the palm of your hand. Compact and always with you. This quality camera can produce amazing images whether you’re and amateur or professional.

Charlie Davoli is an artist who simply uses his iPhone to create beautiful, surreal landscapes.

All of these images were created on his phone, wandering around and taking photos of what interests him and then using apps such as PsTouch, iDesign, Superimpose, Matter, and Mextures edits them and posts them on Instagram.

Davoli’s work is based on balance. The elements of his art in some way aligns with one another in order to symbolize the mirror of two different worlds.

"My inspiration comes from a combination of the supernatural images from the Italian artist De Chirico, my love for geometry of Bauhaus, and the pop culture of Warhol and Lichtenstein... And all with a touch of retro sci-fi. "
