Self-driving cars have been a concept that has been floating around the creative and engineer type minds for the past few years. There have been mixed reviews and safety concerns surrounding this idea. Many prototypes and design ideas by many large companies have been introduced but none have been successful. Having said this, Mercedes-Benz debuted its new Intelligent Drive package of safety and driving-assistance system. This really set the bar and it is predicted that Mercedes will be ahead of the industry for many years to come.

"When the S class debuted, I'd say they had a 30-month lead on the competition in terms of technology deployment," said Dave Sullivan, manager of product analysis for Auto Pacific in Tustin, Calif. "There are similar systems out there, but not with this level of integration and sophistication. This skips a whole generation of S class -- it went into the future. It is 70% autonomous driving."

The goal of the new system is to create a safer road for you and me not to take over the driver’s sense of control, thus I believe that Mercedes Benz have absolutely been successful.
